I love Firefly, the short-lived science fiction show about an eclectic band of ex-revolutionaries, mercenaries, runaways and a preacher. One of the main characters was Jayne Cobb, played by Adam Baldwin. Jayne is portrayed throughout the entire series as an emotionless killer for hire. Until he receives a mysterious package that looks a little like this one ….

There’s something in here wrapped in strawgrass. Wonder what it is ….
It’s a … hat? With a note from Ma Cobb?
Sure enough, it was my replica hat from the Firefly episode The Message, wherein Jayne gets a silly knit cap from his mother. I bought it from Ma Cobb’s Hat Shoppe in Canada. There are LOTS of other Jayne hats out there, but the reason I bought this one was the attention to detail in the hat and the packaging. The experience of opening the package was almost worth the price of the hat itself ($33USD with shipping).
You can tell the amount of love put into designing this experience. The stamps on the box, the “hand” written letter, the assorted collateral in the packaging — it is obvious that Angela of Ma Cobb’s Hat Shoppe cares about Firefly as much as she cares about her product. The attention to detail really sold me.
If you or anyone you know is a Firefly fan, I highly recommend Ma Cobb’s Hat Shoppe and the Jayne hat. It’s well made, and is very warm. Angela was very communicative throughout the order fulfillment process. Even though Ma Cobb’s is in Canada, you can expect your order to arrive as fast as possible via Canadian air post.

Highly recommended. You may buy the Ma Cobb Jayne hat from Etsy, a crafts portal.
