Ars Technica: Bee infestation, hooker shoes, and Walt the Zombie Bee Keeper

I have to say, this thread on Ars Technica is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. Ashby, a forum member, found some bees flying out of an old tree he had in his back yard. His girlfriend’s dog is allergic to bee stings, so Ashby decides to flood them out. An hour later, Ashby stops running the hose and realizes that his bee problem is a little bit more than he can handle himself.

Cue Walt, bad ass beekeeper, who begins to excavate the beehive.

I won’t spoil it, but let’s just say they’re at 6,000 bees and counting, and some sections of the hive are over two feet long deep into the tree.

The post has lots of pictures, a really good writeup by Ashby, and the type of funny commentary you get from Ars.

A few warnings:

There will be references to a “Steve” and a “Cheeto,” which references a possible World’s-Largest-Cheeto held by Steve “GwT” from Ars. The thread was hugely popular and then Steve submitted his Cheeto for verification, and then the thread died. To this day, people are still wondering WTF is up with the Cheeto.

There is also a fair amount of sophomoric humor, especially when Ashby’s girlfriend’s beestung leg makes an appearance in cheetah pumps.
