I often write about fantastic gadgets or review quirky products most folks are afraid to buy.
Sometimes, however, some of the best things I buy are everyday items that we take for granted.
I use a measuring cup every day. Whether it be making a morning smoothie for Sedagive? or measuring out coffee to take to the office, these little plastic scoops get used all the time.
Most of the time I handwash our measuring cups, but sometimes the dishes get ahead of us and we put them in the dish washer. Most measuring cups have the size printed on them, and eventually the ink fades away. Next thing I know, I’m in the middle of making something and have to decide if I am holding the 1/2 cup or 1/3 cup scoop.
IKEA comes to the rescue with an affordable, durable design that looks pretty damn sharp, too.
This set of four scoops is just $4 at your local IKEA. The bundle includes 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup and 1 cup sizes.
As you can tell, the cup section is plastic and the handle is metal.
The best part is that the size is stamped onto the handle. No fading here!
The only drawback to the IKEA measuring cups is that the handles bend. It’s hard to see from these photos, but the handles have a slight downward tilt to them. This gets worse with use, but you can bend them back into place if you’re gentle.
For about a buck each, the DESSERT measuring cups from IKEA are a great deal. They will be more useful over time than cheaper cups because the measurement won’t wash off or fade. The cups are dishwasher safe and the whole bundle will cost you less than $4. They also have a tablespoon / teaspoon set available for the same price.
