Pacific Rim: Giant Robots vs Giant Monsters in July 2013

I try not to get my hopes up with movies, but sometimes I can’t help myself. I really liked the idea and trailer behind Iron Sky but it turned out to be a big disappointment. Sometimes crazy movies like D-Wars hit my radar and go down in flames, but every once in awhile a movie like RoboGeisha comes along and is so silly I can’t help but like it.

Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro (of Hellboy film fame) has the potential to either make my 2013 movie summer or break it. It’s the kind of film I would have watched with my sister when I was six or seven: giant robots fight giant monsters to determine the future of the planet.

This film needs nothing else in order to succeed. Absolutely nothing else except for 90 to 120 minutes of people piloting big robot suits and punching monsters about the neck and body. It’s Godzilla, Rodan, Voltron, and Robotech all rolled into one, and while there are many ways to screw this up I’m holding my breath.

Over the last week or so the viral marketing engine behind Pacific Rim started churning out interesting teasers like the blueprints of the jaegers, the giant robots mankind constructed to fight against the monsters.

The actual site for Pacific Rim is very hard to find, and for the life of me I can’t find the site again. The blueprints are apparently available for reposting, so here they are:

There’s also a pre-trailer teaser out about an attack on San Francisco:

Pacific Rim is set to hit screens July 12, 2013. I’ll be there for sure.
