Rubbermaid 1H42 Pan Organizer Review

True confessions, Gibberish-style:

I love organizational gadgets.

I like containers, drawer spacers, crazy ass universal knife blocks, can racks, magnetic spice holder doo-dads and stackable bins. I love all that stuff.

So it wasn’t much of a surprise to me that I really liked the idea of the Rubbermaid 1H42 pan organizer. What was a surprise was how effective it was, for so little scratch.

The Rubbermaid rack is designed to hold pans and thin pots vertically, as we have it set up, or horizontally. It has five wire-armed shelves that can hold an 8″ pan stacked inside a 12″ sauté pan without the slightest bit of trouble.

The 1H42 has a wide metal foot that serves as a base when oriented vertically, or could serve as a mounting plate when placed on its side. I was skeptical of the design at first, but now that we’ve used it for several weeks I realize the simple genius of the design: the heavier part of the pants puts a lot of weight directly on the foot, which keeps everything very stable.

As you can see in the photo, we have seven pots and pans plus a glass pie plate and a glass pot lid with ease. I haven’t stress tested it beyond much what you see here, which is our typical arsenal when we cook.

I recommend the Rubbermaid pan rack if you need to maximize the space in your cabinet, are tired of digging through stacks of cookware, want to keep your “most used” cookware handy, or any combination thereof. At around $10 before shipping or tax (you can get them at stores like Target or Wal*Mart) it’s a very useful addition to your organizational bag of tricks.

Strongly recommended.
