Windows efficiency update

As you may recall, Lady Jaye and I had new windows installed in our home this October. I have been awaiting our energy bill anxiously, to see how much we were saving thanks to our super efficient windows.

Well, the good news is that we’re saving money, the bad news is that we’re not saving as much as I expected. I got my power bill from Dominion today, and our bill for the month is $74 less than our bill in August. I am sure part of this is due to the weather being cooler in general and therefore we haven’t run the AC as much. The probable savings between the old and new windows is most likely even less than $74. At this rate, it will take 11 years of savings to pay for our windows.

The real test, of course, will be comparing 2005 August to 2006 August, and then 2007, and so on. I know my comparison today is a little apples and oranges, but I was still hoping for a 50% reduction or something 🙂

But I’d expect difference in heating bills to be more significant.
