Actresses I’d Like to See in the Lady Expendables

I really liked the action movie homage The Expendables. I haven’t seen the sequel yet, but I’m looking forward to it, as well as the untitled and upcoming Expendables film starring an all-female cast. Hell. Yeah. Between my mom and a buttnest of women in action films (Linda Hamilton in the Terminator, Grace Jones in Conan the Destroyer, Michelle Yeoh in Super Cop and Heroic Trio, Sigourney Weaver in the Aliens movies, etc) I grew up knowing that women weren’t all prey items or in need of rescue.

The casting call is going on right now, but here’s who I’d like to see starring in the Lady Expendables.

Linda Hamilton

While it may seem counter-intuitive for a soap opera star to become an action hero actress, Linda Hamilton is my first pick to star in the Lady Expendables. She’d be great as the team leader. I loved her in the first two Terminator movies, and every time I see my fiancee Sedagive? in a black tank top and olive drab pants I get a little tingly down south.

Lucy Liu

I’ve had a soft spot for Lucy Liu ever since I saw her knee Gregg Henry in the junk in Payback. She did a good job in the Charlie’s Angels films, but I was really impressed by her performance in the Kill Bill movies. I am super excited to see her in the upcoming Man With the Iron Fists.

Kate Beckinsale

Vampire enforcer? Yes please, Ms. Kate Beckinsale. I loved her in the Underworld series and she almost made Van Helsing watchable.

Grace Jones

At 64 years of age as of this writing, I bet Grace Jones could still kick the hell out of an action movie. I remember seeing the movie Conan the Destroyer at a young age — Jones’s character Zula be terrified and titillated me. Following up with A View to a Kill and Vamp Jones cemented her place in my Badass Action Sheroes of All Time.

Angelina Jolie

She may have some interesting lifestyle choices, but Angelina Jolie has both the action movie and real-life technical chops to pull off a Lady Expendables movie. The Tomb Raider series is all about action, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith is one of my favorite action movies. Add in Gone in 60 Seconds, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Wanted and Salt, and she is one of the most accomplished and prolific female action stars on my list. All of that being said, Jolie and her husband Brad Pitt are firearms enthusiasts, so much that a rumor recently surfaced that he bought her a shooting range and an armory as a wedding present. Pitt denies the rumors, but I like that it seemed credible enough to make it around the news channels.

Michelle Yeoh

I first learned about Michelle Yeoh in Jackie Chan’s movie Super Cop. I saw her in a ton of films thereafter, including Heroic Trio, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies, Fearless, and others.

Lucy Lawless

You can’t have an action movie without Xena, Warrior Princess, and as such Lucy Lawless would be in my dream cast for Lady Expendables. Her ruthlessness in Battlestar Galactica and Spartacus might make her well suited to play the villain, but I think it would be great to see her side-by-side with Lucy Liu and Michelle Yeoh in a scene chock-full of blades.

Who else is on your list to star in a possible Lady Expendables?

Have you seen Haywire? When you do, I think you’ll add Gina Carano to this list.

I watched Gina fight for years before I saw her in Haywire, and I definitely like her. However, she’s just got one film under her belt. I love Randy Couture also, but I don’t think he was the right play for the Expendables, either.

    Gina. Motherfucking. Torres.

  4. Sedagive? says:

Rowdy Ronda Rousey. Her “Imma fuck you up” war face is amazing.

I noticed you initially mentioned Sigourney Weaver but then profiled Lucy Lawless (who is still a great pick). How did you choose one over the other?

I’m surprised you missed Milla Jovovich (resident evil, ultraviolet, 5th element, etc.). Fun list.
