Syd in the City
My college girlfriend Sunshine and I adopted Sydney the Australian shepherd when we were seniors in college. I grew up on a farm with eleven dogs, and missed having a pup around, especially one that I could raise as my own.
Fast forward eleven years (surely not! holy shit!). Sunshine is married to a nice fellow, is pregnant with their first child, and lives in New York City. Sydney has made the transition from beach comber to city dog. Sunshine entered Sydney in a doggie costume and tail-wagging contest in Battery Park last week, and Bret has put together a nice film about it.
Sydney looks like she did the last time I saw her seven years ago. I miss her, but I’ve always known Sunshine loves her to the core and has been a good mommy. Seeing this video makes me really happy for their whole family.
ps — she totally should have won the tail-wagging contest. And who the fuck brings a dog wearing a Red Sox jersey to a contest in New York? That’s just asking for a beatdown.

Married and with her first child on her way. Please pass along my congratulations, Sunshine always seemed very nice. And Sydney is always a winner!
I’ve edited the story to correct a few inaccuracies, as graciously submitted by Sunshine herself. We got Sydney when we were seniors in college, which puts her at a nearly-young eleven. 🙂
